When to arrive for your cruise

Getting to the pier in good time is the one thing that makes your cruise day stress free. Boats leave on schedule and cannot wait, so it is worth planning your journey and leaving a little buffer. Here is when to arrive, how long it takes to reach the pier from the main tourist areas, and how to avoid a last-minute rush.

When to arrive

Arrive at the meeting point at least 15 to 20 minutes before your departure time. For dinner cruises and for larger groups, 30 minutes is safer, as there is more to set up. Arriving a little early means you can:

  • Check in and have your e-ticket scanned without rushing
  • Pass any ID or passport check at the pier
  • Settle in and find a good spot on board before it fills up
  • Relax, rather than racing the clock, because the boat leaves on time

How long it takes to reach Kabataş

Most of our cruises meet at Kabataş. These are rough travel times from popular areas, for an off-peak trip:

FromBest wayApproximate time
Sultanahmet (Old City)T1 tram to Kabataş, the last stop15 to 25 minutes
TaksimFunicular down to Kabataş5 to 10 minutes
Eminönü / SirkeciT1 tram to Kabataş10 to 20 minutes
Karaköy / GalataT1 tram to Kabataş5 to 15 minutes
BeşiktaşTaxi, bus, or a short walk along the shore5 to 15 minutes
Kadıköy / Üsküdar (Asian side)Ferry across, then tram or taxi30 to 45 minutes

These are estimates for a smooth trip. Add a buffer in summer, at rush hour, and on weekends, when traffic and the tram are busier.

Leave a buffer for traffic and crowds

Istanbul traffic and crowds can add time you did not expect, so plan for them:

  • Rush hour, roughly 8 to 10 in the morning and 5 to 7 in the evening, slows road traffic the most
  • In summer the tram and the piers are busier, so allow extra minutes
  • If you take a taxi, traffic on the coast road can be heavy, so the tram is often faster and more predictable
  • Top up your Istanbulkart in advance so you are not queuing for it on the day

If you arrive early

Arriving early is never wasted. The Kabataş waterfront has cafes and places to sit, and Dolmabahçe Palace is a short walk along the shore, so you can relax or take a few photos while you wait for boarding.

Running late?

If you are delayed, contact us as soon as you can. Boats leave on schedule, so a missed departure may count as a no-show. See running late for what to do. For the meeting point and how to find the boat, see where to meet and board, and remember to bring your ID, see what to bring.
