Verified boats & operators

We do not list every boat on the Bosphorus. We list the ones we have checked. Before a cruise appears on our site, we confirm that the operator is licensed, the boat is insured for passengers, and the safety standards are met. That is why we can show you the real boat and stand behind what you book. This page explains, step by step, what we check and what it means for you.

Every cruise is run by a licensed operator

Carrying paying passengers on the Bosphorus is regulated. An operator cannot simply put a boat on the water and sell tickets. The boats we work with are:

  • Licensed and registered: each boat is registered and licensed with the Turkish maritime authorities to carry passengers, which is a legal requirement, not an optional badge
  • Permitted for the route: the operator is authorised to run passenger cruises on the Bosphorus, not just to hold a general boat registration
  • Operating within the rules: boats follow the Turkish Straits maritime traffic rules, including Vessel Traffic Services instructions and the strait speed limit of 10 knots

We confirm this licensing before we agree to sell an operator’s cruises, and we work only with established operators, not one-off boats.

Insured to carry passengers

A licensed passenger boat must carry insurance that covers the people on board, not just the vessel. This matters because it means you are protected, not only the operator’s property:

  • Passenger liability cover: the boats we list carry the passenger insurance required to operate legally
  • Cover for the whole trip: your cruise is run by an insured boat from boarding to return
  • Not a private, uninsured boat: we do not sell informal rides on boats that are not set up and insured to carry paying guests

Safety equipment and inspections

Passenger boats are required to carry safety equipment and to keep it maintained, and this is checked by the maritime authority, not left to the operator alone:

  • Life jackets on board: for all passengers, including child sizes, stored and accessible
  • Fire safety equipment: extinguishers and safety gear maintained on board
  • Maintained and inspected: safety equipment is regularly maintained and checked by the licensing authority
  • Passenger capacity limits: each boat has a maximum passenger number it is licensed for, and operators must not exceed it

A qualified captain and crew

The people running your cruise are trained for it:

  • Licensed captain: each boat is operated by a captain who holds the qualifications required for the role
  • Trained crew: crew members hold the qualifications appropriate to their duties on board
  • Knows the strait: the crew run the Bosphorus regularly and follow the traffic and safety rules for it every day

What we check before we list a cruise

Regulation sets the floor. We add our own checks on top of it before a single ticket is sold:

  1. We verify the operator: we confirm the operator is licensed and authorised to run passenger cruises
  2. We see the actual boat: we use real photos and videos of the real vessel, so the listing matches what you board
  3. We confirm the details: the route, duration, capacity, and what is included are checked against what the operator actually delivers
  4. We set the standard: we work with operators who are reliable and run a clean, well kept boat, and we do not list ones that are not

Because the photos show the real boat, you know what you are getting. See what you see is what you get.

We keep checking after you book

Verification is not a one time stamp. We stay close to how each operator performs:

  • We read your feedback: guest reviews and comments tell us how each boat is really doing
  • We act on problems: if an operator slips below the standard we expect, we raise it with them, and we stop selling their cruises if it is not fixed
  • We stay accountable: because we choose who we list, we take responsibility when something goes wrong, see our money-back guarantee

What this means for you

  • The boat in the photos is the boat you board
  • It is licensed, insured, and inspected to carry passengers
  • It is run by a qualified captain and trained crew
  • If anything falls short, you are covered by our guarantee
